STEFANO BABIC. LIGHT AND SHADOW

In the opening of Milan Fashion Week, OTHER SIZE GALLERY by WORKNESS presents the solo exhibition Babic. Light and shadow Edited by Claudio Composti.

A core of about twenty shots to focus attention on one of Italy’s great fashion photographers-Stefano Babic. The carefully selected images span the period from the 1980s to the late 1990s, including his most iconic shots, as well as more recent photographs that are the result of his research in art photography.

What makes this exhibition unique

Babic stands out for his ability to sculpt with light, creating visually striking and elegant images. The black-and-white portraits capture profiles of women in gestures and smiles, while the supermodels seem more to be playing with life than posing. The photographs reveal his conception of photography as a cinematic and dynamic art, far from the sole purpose of showing fashion clothes.

The photographer favors black and white, considering color film and black and white photography as an art form in which light and shadow play a crucial role

Babic’s dynamic and never posed photography draws from film techniques he learned in the early years of his career when he portrayed internationally renowned actresses and actors.

Moving on from advertising, Babic landed in the fashion world for which he would produce some of the most iconic photos of the 1980s for the most prestigious fashion houses. Beginning with his association with Moschino-whose most significant advertising campaigns he signed that made the brand recognizable worldwide-a long series of important encounters marked his career, such as Capucci, Gianfranco Ferré, and Dolce & Gabbana.

With his gaze he helped create in the collective imagination the idea of “glamour” by immortalizing elegance, vanity and sensuality.
