Carla van de Puttelaar, “Northern Lights” OPENING 30th MARCH 2022
On the occasion of Milan Art Week 2022, Other Size Gallery presents, for the first time in Milan, a solo show by photographer Carla van de Puttelaar (1967, Amsterdam) entitled “Northern Lights”.
Curated by Claudio Composti, the exhibition offers a careful selection of eleven medium and large format photographs, which expertly alternates the artist's favorite subjects, from female portraits to still lifes.
Carla van de Puttelaar's photographs are inspired by the refined north-European portraiture of the seventeenth century, projecting it into the contemporary world: the author tackles, in a delicate and powerful way at the same time, the theme of the female body, enhancing it in all its idiosyncrasies and uniqueness in a way that always makes it beautiful and poetic.
On display, you can admire some of her shots from her most famous series of hers: those from the "Rembrandt Series", commissioned by the same Rembrandt House in Amsterdam which called her to confront the portraits of the Flemish master; the photographs of the “Galatea” project inspired by the Greek myth of the sculptor Pygmalion who, falling in love with her sculpture, begged Aphrodite to make it human; the shots of the “Hortus Nocturnum” series in which the flowers are treated as if they were human bodies.
